The parliamentary Rules Committee has recommended that the Sejm lift the immunity of former Minister of Justice and current Law and Justice (PiS) MP Zbigniew Ziobro, and grant permission for his detention and temporary arrest. The politician commented on the committee’s proceedings in an interview with TV Republika. PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński also voiced his opinion.
After several hours of intense discussion over the prosecutor’s request, committee members voted to recommend that the Sejm strip Ziobro of his parliamentary immunity and approve his arrest.
“I inform you that the committee will submit to the Sejm a proposal to approve the motion of the head of Investigation Team No. 2 of the National Prosecutor’s Office, dated October 28, 2025, requesting consent for criminal prosecution regarding all the acts specified in the motion, as well as for the detention and temporary arrest of MP Zbigniew Ziobro,”
said committee chair Jarosław Urbaniak (Civic Coalition, KO).
“Thursday’s meeting of the parliamentary Rules Committee was demagoguery and manipulation instead of facts and law,” said Law and Justice MP and former Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro in an interview given in Budapest to TV Republika.
According to Ziobro, the charges brought by the prosecutor’s office are “utter nonsense and absurd.”
“But that’s the kind of government we have today,” he remarked.
PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński also commented on the committee’s decision:
“The charges are written on water – without legal basis, commissioned for political purposes, concocted and presented by those who, under the current government, have been promoted and are reaping the benefits. They are destroying a man who fought crime. They have illegally taken over the prosecutor’s office, and now the courts… This isn’t about justice. This is about revenge.”
Zarzuty pisane palcem po wodzie, bez podstaw prawnych, na polityczne zlecenie, kreują i przedstawiają ci, którzy z ramienia obecnej władzy awansowali i czerpią profity. Niszczą człowieka, który zwalczał przestępczość. Nielegalnie przejęli prokuraturę, teraz sądy… Tu nie chodzi…
