The Tuesday meeting between Presidents Karol Nawrocki and Frank-Walter Steinmeier began with a welcoming ceremony in the main courtyard of Bellevue Palace in Berlin. The two leaders will first hold a one-on-one conversation, followed by plenary talks between their delegations.

According to Przydacz, the Berlin discussions are expected to cover cooperation in the field of security, matters related to the European Union, transatlantic relations, bilateral relations, as well as issues concerning compensation for German crimes committed during World War II.
The Polish president will sign the guest book before proceeding to his private conversation with President Steinmeier. Afterwards, plenary talks between the delegations, led by both heads of state, are scheduled.
At the beginning of September, presidential spokesperson Rafał Leśkiewicz said on Studio PAP that President Nawrocki would press President Steinmeier for war reparations during their meeting. He added that this concerns the restitution of cultural property and the payment of compensation. Speaking on September 1 at Westerplatte, Nawrocki himself declared that reparations are necessary “to be able to build a partnership with our western neighbor based on the foundations of truth and good relations.“
On Tuesday morning, Nawrocki will go to the Chancellery to meet with Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Here too, a private conversation between the two politicians is planned, followed by plenary talks under their leadership.
After these meetings, President Nawrocki and his delegation will travel to Paris, where he will meet with French President Emmanuel Macron.
