US actress and activist Jane Fonda talks to Rappler CEO Maria Ressa about how democracy is under attack through disinformation, AI, and narrative warfare — and how storytellers, journalists, and communities can push back
Over 550 celebrities in the United States relaunched the Committee for the First Amendment, a group originally formed during the post-World War II Red Scare.
The group’s intent is to defend American constitutional rights, saying, “The federal government is once again engaged in a coordinated campaign to silence critics in the government, the media, the judiciary, academia, and the entertainment industry.”
The Committee for the First Amendment is led by actress and activist Jane Fonda, whose father, actor Henry Fonda, was one of the early members of the first Committee for the First Amendment.
At the committee’s second meeting, Fonda talks to Rappler chief executive officer Maria Ressa about how democracy is under attack through disinformation, artificial intelligence, and narrative warfare — and how storytellers, journalists, and communities can push back. – Rappler.com
