AFP lauds Atin Ito Coalition for successful mission to WPS

The Atin Ito Coalition on May 3, 2026 carried out the first jetski flag ride in the waters off Pag-asa Island, a key highlight of its fourth civilian mission to the West Philippine Sea.

MANILA, Philippines — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Sunday commended the Atin Ito Coalition as it successfully reached Pag-asa Island and planted a Philippine flag in Sandy Cay in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) over the weekend.

“The successful navigation to our features, culminating in the planting of the Philippine Flag on Sandy Cay, is a profound testament to the indomitable spirit of the Filipino people,” AFP spokesperson for the WPS Navy reservist Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad said in a message to the Philippine News Agency.

“This is not merely a symbolic gesture. It is a powerful assertion of our sovereign rights and a demonstration of active citizenship in the face of external challenges.”

The coalition reached Pag-asa Island on Saturday night and planted a Philippine flag the following morning.

“By peacefully asserting our presence in the WPS, the Atin Ito mission amplifies the voice of our fisherfolk and local communities. It reinforces the truth that the WPS is not just a strategic maritime area, but an integral part of our national heritage and livelihood,” Trinidad said.

The AFP remains committed to its mandate of protecting territory and supporting peaceful, rules-based initiatives that uphold the 2016 Arbitral Award, Trinidad said.

“We stand in solidarity with every Filipino who bravely stands for what is rightfully ours. Your courage inspires us to remain steadfast in our duty,” he added.
