Peru: President Keiko Fujimori confirms two wildfires brought under control in Cusco

stated on Tuesday that two wildfires in Calca Province, Cusco region, had been brought under control.

“This morning, we flew over the Calca area in the helicopter you can see behind us, with FAP General Luis Cortijo,” Fujimori said.

“We were able to see that there were two wildfires, which had already been brought under control this morning,” she added.

The Head of State indicated that a C-27J Spartan aircraft, carrying a 1,000-liter water tank, is also supporting the work of helicopters, which are equipped with water buckets, to control the wildfires.

“It is very important to highlight the joint efforts of the forest firefighters and the organized local population, who are still working in Quillabamba,” she noted.

The President announced that she will hold a working meeting with FAP General Luis Cortijo, Ministers Rafael Belaunde (Defense), Marco Vinelli (Agrarian Development and Irrigation), Cusco Region Governor Werner Salcedo, Cusco Mayor Luis Pantoja, and firefighters to determine which areas the helicopters and the C-27J Spartan aircraft will be deployed to.
