on Friday night led a nationwide immigration monitoring operation, as part of the government’s strategy to combat crime and organized crime.
At the site, the Head of State oversaw the control operations carried out at various locations in the country.
The President verified the intervention involving more than 1,500 foreign nationals at said police facility.
Of that total, around 700 people underwent supervision by the Migrations Office. Biometric checks, including fingerprint registration, were conducted to verify their legal status and determine whether there were any active warrants.
Of the individuals evaluated, 99 had active warrants, which led to the initiation of the corresponding administrative procedures, including expulsion from the national territory, in accordance with the law.
Accompanying the President during the operation were Cabinet Chief Ernesto Alvarez, as well as Ministers Vicente Tiburcio (Interior) and Cesar Quispe (Production).
These authorities clarified that the current state of emergency provides the legal framework to require identification from foreign nationals and to intervene in the absence of valid documentation, a power that does not apply under normal conditions.
It was noted that many of those intervened have no known employment, a situation that is not only legally irregular but also raises serious concerns about their stay and means of subsistence in a context where Peru is facing a severe wave of crime that the State is obligated to address.
This operation took place in Lima, Arequipa, and Trujillo. It represents an unprecedented intervention in terms of its scale, with no precedent in the country regarding coordinated immigration monitoring.
