announced on Friday an emergency declaration over the shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in southern Arequipa region due to the interruption of traffic along the Atico-Ocoña route following mudslides caused by DANA Anibal, a high-altitude isolated depression.

“Yesterday, I spoke with the Energy and Mines Minister. In response to the LPG shortage, a ministerial resolution has been issued that should be published in a special edition of (the Official Gazette) El Peruano in the coming hours to declare the shortage an emergency,” Fujimori said in remarks from Ocoña.

The Head of State explained that, with the emergency declaration, the Supervisory Agency for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin) will be able to adopt measures to facilitate the distribution and sale of the fuel so that it reaches final consumers.

“So, this ministerial resolution should be issued in the coming hours. I want to thank INDECI and all members of the Armed Forces, each of whom is working here from their respective positions,” Fujimori said as she oversaw the evacuation of people affected by the road blockage in Atico and Ocoña.

The Southern Pan-American Highway stretch between Atico and Ocoña, in Caraveli province (Arequipa region), has been blocked for six days due to mudslides and landslides caused by DANA Anibal.

The Head of State indicated that landslides are still occurring, which is why the road has not yet been reopened.

“We estimate that it will take another one to two days,” Fujimori said from the Ocoña area, where she oversaw the evacuation of people due to the climate phenomenon.

“That is why we also thank both the Air Force and the Army Aviation, which are supporting the operation with three helicopters to establish this air bridge,” the President said.

Moreover, the top official mentioned that the Mollendo Port Captaincy has arranged a vessel to transport people stranded in the Atico district.
