Peru: Police locate and destroy three aircraft used for drug trafficking in Loreto | Noticias

09:34 | Ramon Castilla (Loreto region), Feb. 17.

In a joint operation with the Army, the Peruvian National Police struck another blow against drug trafficking, locating and destroying three aircraft intended to smuggle drugs out of the country in Ramon Castilla district, Loreto region.

Agents from the Peruvian National Police Anti-Drug Directorate (Dirandro) detected the aircraft beside a clandestine airstrip near the Nueva Galilea native community.

At the site, more than 20 plastic containers holding fuel—a regulated chemical input—were found, totaling 1,225 kilograms.

The discovery of these items by Peruvian law enforcement was made possible through intelligence work and information sharing with Brazil’s Federal Police, enabling authorities to track a criminal organization planning to ship drugs to the South American giant.

Possible hideouts

This operation against illicit drug trafficking represents an economic loss of approximately US$1 million for the criminal groups involved in this illegal activity.

Police continue operations in this area of Loreto to locate possible hideouts of cocaine paste and clandestine drug-processing laboratories.

Following the discovery and inspection of the aircraft—two under maintenance and one wrecked—Dirandro personnel proceeded to incinerate them, in accordance with current regulations.
