Hanoi, Viet Nam – October 26, 2025 – Papua New Guinea has become one of 65 states to sign the United Nations Convention Against Cybercrime. The signing, which took place on October 25, 2025, in Hanoi, Viet Nam, signifies a global commitment to strengthen cooperation and combat the growing threat of cybercrime.
The signing ceremony occurred at the National Convention Centre. Mr. Steven Matainaho, Secretary for the Department of Information and Communications Technology, signed the convention on behalf of the State, under the authorization of Foreign Minister Justin Tkatchenko. He was accompanied by Mr. Oala Moi, Chief Legal Officer of the National ICT Authority (NICTA), who participated in the 2024 treaty negotiations.
