Over 800 Fijians left country on long-term employment in August

A total of 809 Fijian residents departed the country in August 2025 for employment-related reasons lasting longer than three months, according to the latest data from the Fiji Bureau of Statistics.

The figures reveal that 485 residents left for periods ranging from one to five years, while 324 departed for durations between three months and one year, highlighting the continued demand for overseas work opportunities among Fijians.

Overall, 16,338 residents left Fiji during the month.

The majority, 91 percent or 14,870, were away for less than three months, mainly for holidays (52 percent) and visiting friends or relatives (28.8 percent).

In contrast, long-term travel (three months or more) accounted for just 9 percent of all departures, but employment-related travel dominated this category.

The data also shows that 595 residents departed for education or training, with 282 of them expected to be away for more than three months.

Smaller numbers left for business (977), and 147 residents were recorded under emigration – including 77 departing permanently…. PACNEWS
