Over seventy Catholic primary school teachers from eight different agency schools within Chuave and Salt Nomane Karamui districts gathered and commemorated the belated Catholic Teachers Day on May 22nd at Wangoi Parish, Chuave District in Simbu Province.
The occasion was marked by a strong sense of community and faith, gathering several key dignitaries, including Most Rev. Bishop Paul Sundu of the Catholic Diocese of Kundiawa, Parish Priest of St. Peter Wangoi, Fr. Ryszard Wajda SVD, assistant Catholic Education Secretary, Christian Religious Education Coordinator, local District Inspectors, headmasters, teachers, board members, teachers’ families, children and Catholic youth.
The occasion was celebrated with a retreat, a thanksgiving Eucharist and a communal food-sharing feast to honour their vital role in shaping the future generation.
During the event, Bishop Paul Sundu highlighted the critical importance of prioritising teaching and supporting educators. He also outlined the Catholic Church’s specific expectations for teachers serving within agency schools.
“Faith and professionalism must be active in every agency school because you were Christians before choosing this profession. The Catholic church provides education services to spread Christian faith into the lives of all children and people,” Bishop Sundu said.
