Reflecting on a career that began when he debuted in the top grade at just 18 years old under legendary coach Wayne Bennett, former NRL hooker Andrew McCullough spoke candidly in PNG about the harsh realities of professional sport, including his sudden departure from the Brisbane Broncos after 260 games.
“A new coach came in, there were salary cap changes, and it was during COVID. I remember just driving in one day, clearing out my locker, and leaving,” McCullough said. “You think after 12 to 14 years it might end differently, but it was a great lesson. The big organisations move on, what matters are the close friendships and being a good person.”
