Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika has arrived with his delegation of judges to mark the official opening of the 2026 Legal Year.
Today, Independence Boulevard in Waigani, National Capital District, serves as the assembly point for the country’s legal fraternity.
Law enforcement officers, lawyers, judges, and court staff have gathered to participate in the annual proceedings.
The event features a special ceremonial parade led by the combined bands of the Correctional Service and the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary.
The procession marches from the Boulevard to the new National Court complex, where the ceremony will conclude with a series of keynote speeches and special addresses regarding the state of the judiciary for the coming year.
