Tocumen Airport expects record number of travelers for Carnival 2026 in Panama

Tocumen Airport is preparing for one of its busiest periods of the year for Carnival 2026 in Panama. During these festivities, officially celebrated from February 14th to 17th, an extraordinary influx of over 154,000 passengers is projected, including both arrivals and departures.

The special logistics operation responds to the high tourist flow that carnivals historically generate, both for those who travel abroad and for those who return to the country after the days of celebration.

Wednesday, February 18: the day with the most arrivals after Carnival

The largest volume of arrivals is expected on Wednesday, February 18, when 10,920 passengers are projected to return to Panama City after the holiday.

This peak in movement will mark the end of the special operation, with an intense flow in areas of immigration, customs and baggage claim.

Regarding departures, Tocumen anticipates the movement of 69,959 local passengers to international destinations during the same period.

Friday, February 13: will be the day with the most departures, with 9,810 travelers leaving the country

Saturday, February 14: will maintain high demand, with more than 9,100 passengers taking off to different destinations

These numbers solidify Panama’s main airport as a key hub for regional connectivity during peak seasons.

Tocumen activates special plan for Carnival 2026

The airport’s general manager, José Ruiz Blanco, explained that this operation responds to the tourist and economic impact that Carnival generates in the country.

The comprehensive plan includes:

Optimization of operational processes

Reinforcement of personnel in immigration, customs and security

Ongoing coordination with airlines and airport system entities

Continuous monitoring of passenger flow

Recommendations for travelers during Carnival

Airport authorities recommend the following to passengers:

Arrive at least three hours before international flights.

Check your travel documents beforehand.

Avoid carrying prohibited items in hand luggage or checked baggage.

Check in online when available.

These measures aim to streamline processes and reduce waiting times during one of the most important peak periods for air travel of the year.
