The Spanish National Team Begins its Tour of Madrid to Celebrate the World Cup

Spain celebrates its second World Cup with a massive parade through Madrid.

The Spanish national team is already parading through the streets of Madrid to celebrate winning their second World Cup, after the official receptions, heading towards Montalbán Street, next to the city hall, where the party with the fans will take place.  The first moments of the parade, on the A-6 road from the Moncloa Palace, were marked by traffic stopped in the opposite direction to see the world champions on top of the open-top bus, presided over by the trophy.   The members of the national team appeared wearing commemorative T-shirts celebrating their victory, after having worn the official suits by the Spanish brand Loewe at receptions with the Royal Family and the Prime Minister.

Others, like Ferran Torres and Marcos Llorente, opted to appear shirtless.  The players could be seen smiling and interacting with the public present on roadsides, sidewalks and other street furniture, as well as singing the songs that enlivened the route.  The route, confirmed this Monday by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), started in Moncloa and will continue along Princesa, Alberto Aguilera, Carranza, Sagasta, Génova streets -in the opposite direction-, Goya, Serrano, Plaza de la Independencia, Puerta de Alcalá, Alfonso XII and Montalbán, to end next to the Cibeles Palace, headquarters of the city council, around 9:00 p.m.

The main event of the celebration will take place in that square, with the presentation of the footballers and several musical performances, among which the groups Arde Bogotá or Viva Suecia and the singers Ana Mena, Lola Índigo or Aitana are confirmed.  The Spanish team landed at Terminal 4 of Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suárez Airport at 2:25 p.m. this Monday. Rodri Hernández, the captain, was the first to disembark the plane, carrying the trophy, accompanied by Luis de la Fuente, the national team coach, and Rafael Louzán, president of the RFEF (Royal Spanish Football Federation).

The members of the expedition were picked up at the foot of the runway by a bus emblazoned with the words ‘Congratulations champions’, which they boarded for a hotel in Madrid. Later, they were received by the Royal Household at La Zarzuela Palace around 6:00 p.m. and by Pedro Sánchez, the Prime Minister, at La Moncloa Palace at 7:00 p.m.  The parade is scheduled to end near the Communications Palace in Cibeles at around 9:00 p.m., followed by two hours of festivities and numerous surprises, according to the RFEF.
