The Panamanian capital will host the fifth edition of the IRONMAN 70.3 Panama Latin America Tri-Club Championship this Sunday, one of the most outstanding events on the regional triathlon calendar, which will bring together more than 1,500 athletes from more than 50 countries and will award qualifying places for the World Championship of the specialty. The competition will take place on the Pacific coast of Panama City, with the 1.9-kilometer swimming event being held in the waters of the Panama Canal, one of the country’s most iconic landmarks and a distinctive attraction within the franchise’s international circuit.
After leaving the water, the participants will also face a 90-kilometer cycling circuit, on a route that will connect the Amador Causeway with the Coastal Strip, Via Israel and Panama Viejo, and will close the competition with a 21.1-kilometer running race, on a closed circuit, which will have the Amador Causeway as its setting. “Reaching more than 1,500 athletes marks a milestone for Panama and sets a record since the competition began being held in the country. In its fifth edition, IRONMAN 70.3 Panama consolidates its sustained growth and positions the country as a strategic venue within the global circuit,” stated race director Rina Aguirre pictured below, at the event’s presentation.
Aguirre highlighted that the event continues to consolidate itself as a key event in triathlon in Latin America and an important opportunity for 50 athletes (25 men and 25 women) seeking qualification for the world championship, which will take place in September in Nice, France. The organizers emphasize that the event sold out its slots since December 2025, reflecting the growing interest of the international sports community in competing in Panama. Beyond the sporting arena, the competition has become a significant economic driver. In the last five years, according to organizers, it has generated an impact exceeding $20 million, benefiting sectors such as hospitality, transportation, gastronomy, and local commerce.
