Three people died in acts of violence recorded on the same night in two different provinces of Panama.
In Pedasí, Los Santos province, a man and a woman were found dead inside a house with gunshot wounds. The alleged perpetrator of the double murder in Pedasí also died hours later, after ingesting a toxic substance when he was cornered by the authorities. The victims of the shooting attack were identified as Zuleika Yovana Murillo Pérez, 46, and Jorge Luis Vergara De Gracia, 31. Both people died inside a house in that community in Santeña.
The officers arrived at the scene and checked the interior of the building through a window. They found a man lying on the living room floor and a woman face down in one of the bedrooms, both with traces of blood and no signs of life. Following the discovery, the police began searching for a 55-year-old man identified as the alleged perpetrator of the two deaths. The suspect reportedly ingested insecticide when he felt cornered by the officers and also died.
In the province of Chiriquí, a 67-year-old man was attacked with a knife, allegedly by his own nephew.
As of midday today, local media report that authorities had not yet released an official statement regarding how the deaths occurred or the possible motive for the attack. The investigation into the triple homicide remains open in the area.
