Whiteland police relocate massive cocaine stash – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana Traffic

WHITELAND, Ind. (WISH) — There was so much cocaine stored at the Whiteland Police Department that it had to be moved.

The department revealed Tuesday night it seized approximately 159 kilograms, or 350 pounds, of cocaine valued around $16 million during a drug investigation about 5 p.m. June 17 at the Pilot Travel Center, 2962 E. Johnson County Road 500 North.

Officers had responded to a suspicious call from a truck driver. During a pretrip inspection, the driver had discovered that the trailer seal had been tampered with, leading to the discovery of boxes containing the illicit narcotics.

The cocaine seizure is believed to be one of the largest on record in Indiana.

Chief Derek Cox, in a news release issued Tuesday night, said a thorough investigation is underway, with no arrests made thus far.

“We have since, transferred the narcotics out of our custody pending destruction. Retaining the narcotics posed serious safety concern for our officers because of the limited amount of space we have for evidence storage and the concern that someone would come looking for their product,” Cox wrote in the release.

No word in the release on where the cocaine now resides.

The police wants the public’s help. Anyone with information related to the investigation was asked contact the Whiteland Police Department at (317) 535-8100 or tips@whitelandpd.us.
