NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WISH) — Good news comes for David Malukas and the AJ Foyt Racing team.
The IndyCar driver has been cleared and released from Vanderbilt hospital after receiving additional testing following a hard crash during Sunday’s race at Nashville Superspeedway.
Malukas posed with a thumbs up in a selfie he posted on social media with the caption:
“I am healthy and well! Thank you all for the messages. It meant a lot to see all the support the moment I left the hospital. Gratitude to the AMR/INDYCAR safety and medical teams for their exceptional care. Better days ahead, much love -DM”
AJ Foyt Racing also posted the positive update on social media Sunday night, saying:
“After further evaluation at Vanderbilt, we are happy to share that David’s tests came back clear. He has been released. Thank you to everyone who reached out with concern for him, both fans and fellow competitors alike. We cannot emphasize enough how grateful we are for the safety advances that Dallara continues to provide, as well as the swift response and care of the AMR Safety and INDYCAR Medical teams.”
The incident happened on lap 83 of the Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix — IndyCar’s final race of the season. Malukas was racing in second place and battling rookie Louis Foster when he lost control in the turn, slamming in to the wall.
Malukas needed assistance from the AMR Safety team to exit his AJ Foyt Racing car. He immediately sat down on the outside of the car before being taken to the in-field care center.
After being looked at by the IndyCar medical team, he was then flown by helicopter to Vanderbilt.
Malukas finishes the 2025 season 11th in the standings with rumors that he will move up to Team Penske to replace long-time driver Will Power for next season.
