INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indiana is expanding and renaming its health care price transparency platform, formerly known as the Indiana All Payer Claims Database, Gov. Mike Braun’s office announced Thursday.
Now called Indiana Health Prices, the platform will integrate comprehensive prescription resources, hospital cash prices, and voluntary provider submissions to help Hoosiers understand, compare and save on health care costs.
Indiana Health Prices collects health care claims information from insurers and sources to offer what the state calls transparent and comparable price data. Nearly 2 billion claims records provide what the state calls a robust foundation for informed decision-making.
Braun, in a statement in the announcement, emphasized the impact of these changes on competition and cost reduction. “Transparency and affordability drive competition and lower health care costs. Indiana Health Prices integrates hospital cash prices, provider-contributed data and expanded prescription resources in one platform so Hoosiers can compare and save with confidence. That includes searching the PatientRightsAdvocate.org Hospital Drug Price Finder tool to compare hospital drug cash and plan prices and see differences across hospitals and regions.”
The updated platform also includes several new resources designed to enhance users’ experience and access to information. A chatbot offers interactive, guided responses to simplify complex searches, provides unified access to relevant information from several state websites, and acts as a centralized, one-stop resource for health cost and utilization data. It is available 24/seven for residents, researchers, policymakers and health care providers.
For cash prices, hospital cash prices for services performed in hospital settings are now directly incorporated into the Indiana Health Prices platform. These prices will appear in existing dashboards and within the chatbot, further enhancing the tool’s comprehensive capabilities.
The platform also features expanded provider data submission, inviting providers and laboratories to voluntarily submit pricing and service information. A new submission layout enables labs and doctors’ offices to contribute data, aiming to broaden transparency and assist Hoosiers in shopping for various services. Providers interested in contributing data can download FAQs and submission formats or contact apcd@idoi.in.gov.
Additionally, a new Prescription Resources Tab has been added, which links to external tools. These external resources include Trump RX, Mark Cuban Cost Plus, and the PatientRightsAdvocate.org Hospital Drug Price Finder.
Indiana recently received national recognition for its innovative approach to health data. The state earned the National Innovation in Data Dissemination Award from the National Association of Health Data Organizations. Established in 2009, the annual award was designed to recognize outstanding leadership in making health data accessible, understandable and useful to the public.
