INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen was arrested Sunday morning on preliminary charges of driving while intoxicated.
IMPD says that Allen was stopped in the 100 block of S. Meridian Street in a no-parking zone. Police say that officers identified the driver as 34-year-old Keenan Allen.
IMPD says that Allen faces two preliminary charges:
- Driving while intoxicated.
- Driving while intoxicated endangering a person.
The arrest comes less than 24 hours after the Colts’ final preseason game on Saturday afternoon.
Steve Campbell, Vice President of Colts communications, said in a statement:
“We are aware of the incident involving Keenan Allen last night. We are in the process of gathering more information and have no further comment at this time.”
Allen joined the Colts two weeks ago after signing a one-year contract worth up to $8.32 million. The 13-year veteran caught his first pass in a Colts uniform during Saturday’s preseason game against the Lions. The 24-yard catch came from quarterback Anthony Richardson on the second play from scrimmage. Allen left the game following that reception.
Head coach Shane Steichen talked about Allen’s catch after the game.
“I thought it was good,” Steichen said. “I wanted to get him a touch there and obviously got a good coverage. He went on the route, and Anthony (Richardson Sr.) delivered a good ball. So, it was just good getting him that.”
The Colts have two weeks to prepare for the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens in Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 13. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
