7-day forecast: Spring tease followed by rain – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana Traffic

TONIGHT

The wet part of the weekend winds down this evening, and after that it is more about leftover clouds than leftover rain. Showers should taper fairly quickly through the first part of the night, then skies stay mostly cloudy with lows in the upper 30s to low 40s. West wind around 5 to 10 mph, with a few higher gusts early before things settle down. Roads stay wet for a while, but the bigger takeaway is that the night improves as it goes, so if you have late plans they should be in better shape than the evening hours.

TOMORROW

A much better looking day settles in, and it almost feels like the atmosphere hits a reset button. Morning clouds should gradually break for more sun, and by afternoon it turns bright and pleasantly mild with highs in the low 60s. Southwest wind around 5 to 10 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph. After the soggy start to the weekend, this is the kind of day that makes outdoor plans easy again, with dry roads, improving visibility, and a lighter spring feel.

TOMORROW NIGHT

Quiet and mild for early March, with clear skies and lows in the low to mid 40s. South southwest wind around 5 mph. It is one of those nights where you can tell the pattern is changing, not much bite in the air, no travel issues, and a calm setup heading into a very warm Monday.

MONDAY

This is the standout day of the run if you just care about comfort. Sunshine wins, temperatures jump into the low 70s, and it feels more like late April than early March. South southwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph. It is a great afternoon for being outside, but with warmth arriving this quickly, it also sets the table for a more active setup later in the week.

MONDAY NIGHT

Still mild and breezy enough to keep the air from cooling much, with partly cloudy skies and lows around 60. South southwest wind around 10 mph, with a few gusts up to 20 mph. It is a very unusual night for this time of year, and it keeps the warm pattern firmly in place.

TUESDAY

Clouds increase and the next round of active weather starts to creep in by afternoon. Highs reach the low to mid 70s, with south southwest wind around 10 mph and gusts up to 25 mph. A few showers and thunderstorms could develop later in the day, so while much of the daytime may still be fine, the atmosphere starts looking much more unsettled by evening.

TUESDAY NIGHT

Rain becomes more widespread and a thunderstorm is possible. Lows hold in the low to mid 60s, with south southwest wind around 10 to 15 mph and gusts up to 25 mph. This is a warm, wet, almost spring storm kind of night, and if heavier downpours develop, ponding on roads becomes more noticeable.

WEDNESDAY

Mild, windy, and unsettled with rain likely and at least some thunder potential still around. Highs stay near 70, with southwest wind around 15 mph and gusts up to 30 mph. Even where storms are not severe, the day looks sloppy at times with wet roads, occasional reduced visibility, and a generally breezy feel from start to finish.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT

Rain lingers into the evening, then colder air starts working in late. Lows drop to the low 30s by daybreak, with northwest wind around 10 to 15 mph and gusts up to 25 mph. A little rain and snow mix is possible late, mainly as the system exits, so the night ends on a much different note than the warm stretch before it.

7 DAY FORECAST

The overall theme is a fast shift from a damp, cool Saturday evening to a remarkably warm start to the new week, then a wetter and more active stretch by Tuesday and Wednesday. Sunday and especially Monday look like the best windows for dry and comfortable weather, with temperatures running well above normal. After that, repeated rain chances and a few thunderstorms move in through midweek, and some of that rain could be heavy enough to create ponding and slower travel. By late Wednesday night and beyond, colder air starts to push back in, so this spring tease does not last forever.
