Trump says US will be ‘Paid’ for guarding Strait of Hormuz

Washington: Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Trump stated that the US would effectively take control of security operations in the Strait, a critical passage for global oil shipments. He emphasized that while the US has long played a role in protecting the route, it would no longer do so without financial return.

“We’ll become the guardian of the Strait,” Trump said, adding that the US had previously been providing protection “for nothing.” He stressed that wealthy nations benefiting from the waterway would now be expected to reimburse the United States for its efforts.

“We’re going to get paid for guarding it. A lot of money, but we just want to be reimbursed for doing all of this, for putting our people in danger,” Trump added.

In a separate interview with “Fox and Friends,” Trump reiterated his stance, declaring that the United States was “taking over” the Strait of Hormuz. He also criticized Iranian negotiators, expressing frustration over attempts to revise agreements reached during recent talks.

“We’re taking over the Strait. They have nothing. They’ve got nothing,” Trump said, referring to Iran while discussing the broader geopolitical situation.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategically important waterways, with a significant portion of global oil shipments passing through it daily.
