Tehran: According to the Islamic Republic News Agency, the discussions will focus on creating “appropriate mechanisms” to regulate maritime traffic and ensure the passage of vessels through the waterway.

Iran has maintained during the ongoing conflict that it is willing to coordinate with Oman on managing the strait. Oman and Iran are the two countries whose coastlines border the narrow waterway, which serves as one of the world’s most important routes for global oil and gas shipments.

The latest visit follows earlier discussions between the foreign ministers of Oman and Iran on mechanisms for the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
