MUSCAT — Two people were found dead and one remains missing after a vehicle carrying 10 was swept into a wadi in Oman’s South Al Batinah in Wilayat Barka, authorities said on Sunday.
Oman’s Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) said rescue teams responded to the incident and managed to save seven people from the flooded wadi.
“Two individuals were found dead, while search operations are ongoing for a third person,” the authority said in a statement.
The incident occurred amid heavy rainfall that led to rising water levels in wadis and low-lying areas, creating hazardous conditions for motorists.
Images released by CDAA showed the vehicle partially submerged in fast-moving water, as rescue teams navigated strong currents during the operation.
Authorities have warned residents against attempting to cross flooded wadis, noting that water levels can rise rapidly and pose significant danger.
Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority has said unstable weather conditions are expected to continue, with forecasts of thunderstorms, strong winds and a risk of further flash flooding in several parts of the country.
