Oman, Qatar call for de-escalation, stress Strait of Hormuz security

MUSCAT: Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi and Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani discussed the latest regional developments during a telephone call on Sunday, with both sides emphasising the need to intensify diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.

According to Oman’s Foreign Ministry, the ministers reviewed ongoing mediation initiatives and diplomatic contacts aimed at reducing tensions and avoiding further confrontation. They discussed ways to build consensus among the parties to reach a practical and sustainable understanding.

The two ministers also underlined the importance of ensuring the security and freedom of navigation in the region, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz, and maintaining the uninterrupted flow of global supply chains that are critical to the world economy.

Both sides reaffirmed the importance of continued consultation and coordination in response to evolving regional developments, and called for stronger regional and international cooperation to address the root causes of tension and reinforce peace, security and stability.
