Oman Airports handle 5.2 million passengers by May 2026; Indians top Muscat Airport traffic

MUSCAT : The total number of international flights, including arrivals and departures through Muscat International Airport, Salalah Airport and Sohar Airport, stood at 31,867 flights by the end of May 2026, a decrease of 10.7 percent from 35,679 flights recorded during the corresponding period last year.

Muscat International Airport recorded 34,242 international and domestic flights by the end of May 2026, down 8.2 percent from 37,307 flights during the same period in 2025.

Passenger traffic at Muscat International Airport also declined to 4,764,340 passengers, a decrease of 8.5 percent compared with 5,207,005 passengers recorded by the end of May 2025.

At Salalah Airport, the total number of international and domestic flights reached 3,234 flights by the end of May 2026, down 13 percent from 3,717 flights during the same period last year. Passenger numbers fell by 15.9 percent to 468,797, compared with 557,298 passengers.

Sohar Airport recorded 50 international and domestic flights by the end of May 2026, compared with 82 flights during the same period in 2025, representing a decline of 39 percent. Passenger numbers dropped to 173, compared with 336 passengers, a decrease of 48.5 percent.

Domestic flight activity at Duqm Airport also declined, with the number of flights falling by 13.3 percent to 222 flights by the end of May 2026, compared with 256 flights during the same period last year.

Passenger traffic at Duqm Airport decreased by 19.3 percent, reaching 20,476 passengers compared with 25,371 passengers during the corresponding period in 2025.

Meanwhile, passenger traffic through Muscat International Airport during May 2026 showed that Indian nationals ranked as the busiest nationality group for arrivals and departures, with 175,022 passengers recorded, including 76,515 arrivals and 98,507 departures.

Omani nationals ranked second with 80,732 passengers, comprising 40,955 arrivals and 39,777 departures, while Pakistani nationals ranked third with 45,956 passengers, including 20,723 arrivals and 25,233 departures.
