Major developments planned in Rustaq and Wakan Village

Muscat – As part of efforts to boost domestic tourism and enhance public spaces, South Batinah Governor’s Office has invited bids for two major development projects in the wilayats of Rustaq and Nakhal.

The tenders cover the development of Rustaq City Walk, a planned urban promenade designed to offer residents and visitors a modern recreational space, and consultancy services for the preparation of a master plan and detailed designs for the development of Wakan Village, one of the sultanate’s most picturesque mountain destinations.

According to the tender notice, the Rustaq City Walk project aims to improve the wilayat’s urban landscape by creating a pedestrian-friendly environment that supports leisure activities, family outings and small-scale tourism initiatives. The project is expected to enhance the quality of life for residents while improving Rustaq’s appeal as a domestic tourism destination.

The Wakan Village project in Nakhal is focused on preparing a comprehensive master plan, detailed designs and tender documents for future development. Perched high in the Western Hajar Mountains, Wakan is renowned for its terraced farms, cool climate and sweeping views, attracting large numbers of domestic visitors, particularly during the winter season.

The planned development of the village is intended to preserve its natural and cultural character while improving infrastructure and visitor facilities in a sustainable manner, in line with Oman Vision 2040 goals for tourism diversification and balanced regional development.

Both projects form part of wider initiatives in South Batinah to support domestic tourism, attract investment and develop destinations that deliver environmental, social and economic value.
