BEIRUT : The attack took place late on Friday in the village of Burj Qalaouiyah in Lebanon’s Bint Jbeil District, where doctors, paramedics and nurses were reportedly on duty when the health facility was struck. The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health confirmed that the strike killed 12 members of the medical staff.
The ministry condemned the attack, stating that the strike targeted frontline medical workers carrying out their duties. Officials also highlighted that ambulance teams and healthcare facilities have been repeatedly targeted during the ongoing hostilities.
According to the Health Ministry, at least 26 paramedics have been killed and 51 others injured in Israeli attacks across Lebanon since March 2. The ministry added that several ambulance crews have been struck while conducting rescue missions in conflict-affected areas.
The latest incident comes amid a wider regional war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28, which has intensified tensions across the Middle East and drawn neighbouring countries into the conflict.
Lebanese authorities say that Israeli attacks have killed at least 773 people in Lebanon since the escalation began, further deepening concerns over the humanitarian impact of the conflict.
Meanwhile, rescue teams continued searching through the rubble of the destroyed health centre for possible survivors or victims.
