NEW DELHI – The Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA) in India, issued the advisory through Circular No. 36 of 2026 on July 15, calling for enhanced precautionary measures to safeguard Indian seafarers operating in the Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz and surrounding waters.

The DGMA said the decision follows recent incidents involving attacks on merchant vessels in the conflict-affected region, which have increased risks for seafarers and commercial shipping operations.

Under the advisory, ship owners, ship managers and RPSL companies have been instructed not to deploy Indian seafarers on vessels undertaking voyages involving passage through the Strait of Hormuz until further orders.

The authority also directed vessels operating in the region to maintain heightened security vigilance, continuously monitor navigational warnings and security advisories, and implement ship security measures, security plans and company procedures in line with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
