CBO to issue commemorative One-Riyal polymer banknote

Muscat – The Central Bank of Oman (CBO) has announced the issuance of a new commemorative one-riyal polymer banknote, scheduled to enter public circulation on January 11, 2026. This special release serves as a significant addition to the Sultanate’s currency, marking a pivotal moment in the nation’s numismatic history.

Unlike traditional paper currency, the new bill is crafted from advanced polymer material, offering enhanced durability, superior security features, and a modern aesthetic. The issuance coincides with national celebrations, reflecting Oman’s ongoing commitment to modernising its financial infrastructure while celebrating its rich cultural identity. Financial institutions and retail outlets across the country are preparing for the banknote’s integration into daily transactions as it becomes legal tender alongside existing denominations.
