US court clears way for vote on moving $71M in crypto stolen by North Korea

A U.S. federal judge has cleared the way for a vote to transfer tens of millions of dollars in cryptocurrency to services impacted by a recent cyberattack linked to North Korea, while leaving unresolved competing claims over the assets’ ownership after a lawsuit by victims of DPRK-related ‘terrorism.’

Judge Margaret Garnett of the U.S. Southern District of New York on Friday modified an earlier restraining notice that had blocked the movement of 30,766 ETH, worth roughly $71 million, recovered after last month’s $290 million heist from the decentralized finance (DeFi) service KelpDAO.
