Fifty years ago, I came into this world and began a journey that many, judging from the joy on my parents’ faces at my naming ceremony, be lieved would unfold in the most ordinary of ways. Instead, my life has been shaped by extraordinary events, principally the political tragedy and historic struggle for democracy in Nigeria. During those turbulent years, Nigerians marched in pursuit of a president who, at that time, happened to be my father. Leading that march were courageous figures like you who, alongside a few other brave compatriots, remained steadfast even after the passing of my parents, Moshood and Kudirat Abiola.
Their sacrifice influenced how I view the world and humanity. It shaped my calling as a linguist and writer and instilled in me a profound desire to serve within a government driven by purpose and integrity.
I have come to understand that in that struggle stood individuals like you who gave everything in defense of democracy, and others, very different from you, who opposed my parents and gained much, only for their gains to prove fleeting, for they were built on hollow convictions.
SPONSOR AD
Today, destiny has resolved the contradictions of those years. You have risen to the office where your courage and commitment have always be longed: the Presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. As a technocrat and accountant by training, supported by your loyal deputy, Senator Kashim Shettima, a banker by profession, the horizon before Nigeria is limitless. Yet the work ahead remains immense, for Nigerians will soon march again, and this time for a purpose even more consequential.
Unlike the moments in 1993 and 2023, the march of2027 carries existential significance for our democracy. Nigerians will not merely be choosing a president; they must also come to understand why the reforms championed by your administration are essential to the survival and flourishing of democratic governance. They must recognize the courage it took to initiate measures that previous leaders hesitated to confront. By the close of your next tenure in 2031, Nigeria, by the grace of God, will stand much closer to the nation we have all dreamed of.
As you continue to present your vision to Nigerians and to the international community about your policies and goals, you can count on my full support. Through my command of twelve languages and my extensive understanding of both local and global affairs, I will serve you with the same loyalty and dedication that my parents once received from you during the darkest days of our collective democratic struggle.
Yours sincerely,
Alhaji Jamiu Abiola
