PSV ease past Volendam to retain six-point lead over Feyenoord

PSV avoided a banana skin following their midweek win at Liverpool as they strolled to a 3-0 home victory against Volendam.

Ricardo Pepi was restored to the starting line-up following his contribution as an impact substitute at Anfield, and made his mark with a spectacular overhead kick.

Pepi also made the opening goal as he laid off the ball in front of goal for Joey Veerman, before Guus Til and Ismael Saibari set up Pepi to score the second from a tight angle after 24 minutes.

Til, back in his familiar midfield role after a spell as a stand-in striker, rolled in his 10th of the season early in the second half to confirm the result.

Feyenoord ended a four-match losing streak at bottom club Telstar, where Robin van Persie dropped Sem Steijn from the starting 11, saying he expected more from the captain “with and without the ball”.

Ayase Ueda made the opening goal when his shot clipped the ankle of Guus Offerhaus, but he was denied a 14th of the season when it was classed as an own goal by the defender.

Anis Hadj Moussa ran in a second as Feyenoord rarely came under pressure until Kaj Tejan poked home in the 89th minute, but it was too late to force an equaliser.

NEC go third

NEC Nijmegen moved up to third place after Koki Ogawa struck twice in the first half of a 3-1 win against Sparta.

Ogawa rounded off a flowing move for the opener before scoring a second from the penalty spot after Sami Ouaissa was brought down.

Ouaissa, who was also involved in the move that led to the first goal, added a third when he headed Bryan Linssen’s knock-down in from close range.

NEC are level on points with fourth-placed AZ, who lost 1-0 at Twente, with Daan Rots scoring the winner in the second half when he turned in Bart van Rooij’s knock-down. AZ had a chance to level from the penalty spot in the 98th minute, but Troy Parrott’s attempted chip sailed over the crossbar.

Go Ahead Eagles came back from 2-0 down in the last 15 minutes to claim a draw against Utrecht. Mathis Suray sparked the recover when he rammed the ball into the top left corner before Richonell Margaret equalised with a shot through the legs of goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas.

Shortly afterwards Milan Smit had a chance to claim all three points for Go Ahead only to shoot straight at the goalkeeper, while David Min missed from close range for Utrecht in the closing stages.

Naujoks hot streak

Noah Naujoks followed up his double for Excelsior at Ajax with the only goal against NAC from the penalty spot, while PEC Zwolle climbed to 14th place after beating Heerenveen 2-1 with a flying header from Thijs Oosting and a tap-in by Shola Shoretire.

Hendrie Krüzen signed off as interim coach for Heracles with a 1-1 draw at Fortuna Sittard, with Jizz Hoornkamp equalising in the second half. Ernest Faber will take over as coach and technical director after Krüzen, who is staying on as his assistant, lifted the club from the bottom of the table to 16th place.

Groningen’s home match against Ajax was abandoned after the travelling supporters let off a barrage of fireworks in the fifth minute to commemorate a fan who died two weeks ago.
