In-form Ueda and Saibari keep Feyenoord and PSV neck and neck

Ayase Ueda scored twice as Feyenoord held on to their position at the top of the Eredivisie by the narrowest of margins with a 3-1 win against Volendam.

Ueda went close with several good chances in the opening 15 minutes before finally finding the net when he turned in Givairo Reid’s cross from close range.

Sem Steijn scored a second after 25 minutes, but Volendam made a fight of it when a looping cross by Aurelio Oehlers was tapped in by Henk Veerman in the 58th minute. Feyenoord only made sure of the points in the 88th minute when Ueda headed in his 13th goal in 11 league matches.

PSV stay behind Feyenoord on goal difference after Ismael Saibari also netted twice in a resounding 5-2 defeat of Fortuna Sittard.

The midfielder headed in Dennis Man’s cross for the opener and then hit a thumping shot at the near post to put his team 2-0 up in the opening half-hour.

Man added a third just before half-time when he cut through the defence on the right and finished with a low shot.

Goalkeeping blunders

A double blunder by Matej Kovar allowed Justin Lonwijk to pull a goal back for Fortuna in the second half, but late goals by Ricardo Pepi and Guus Til added sprinkle to the scoreline, while Kaj Sierhuis’s spectacular long-range strike gave the visiting fans something to cheer.

Ajax fell further behind the leaders as a mistake by goalkeeper Remko Pasveer cost them two points against Heerenveen.

Mika Godts put Ajax ahead with a shot on the turn near the end of a first half that was disrupted when fans let off fireworks to commemorate a member of the hardcore F-side who died at the age of 30.

But the Frisians equalised when Pasveer palmed a shot from range by Maas Willemsen straight into the patch of Vaclav Sejk, who gratefully accepted the free strike.

Hoornkamp on fire

Bottom club Heracles shook off their early season blues in spectacular fashion, scoring eight goals against PEC Zwolle in their first match since sacking coach Bas Sibum.

Jizz Hoornkamp bagged a hat-trick in 14 minutes as Heracles recovered from going 1-0 behind early on. It got worse in the 38th minute when PEC’s Nick Fichtinger was shown a red card for a foul in the penalty area and Luka Kulenovic dispatched the resulting spot-kick.

Bryan Limbombe scored the pick of the second-half goals with a flashing volley, while Mike te Wierik, Alec Van Hoorenbeeck and Thomas Bruns also weighed in.

Telstar and Excelsior shared the points in a basement scrap that featured four goals and two missed penalties.

Jochem Rittmeester van de Kamp put Telstar in front in the third minute and Tyrone Owusu made it two when Patrick Brouwer found him in space on the left of the penalty area.

Penalty failures

Arthur Zagré replied from the spot for Excelsior just before half-time. Telstar should have restored their advantage when Ritmeester van de Kamp was brought down, but Danny Bakker blasted the penalty over the bar.

Zagre dragged a second penalty wide with 15 minutes left, but Gyan de Regt made amends a minute later with a diagonal shot for the equaliser.

AZ Alkmaar strengthened their hold on third place with a 1-0 win at Sparta. Teenager Kees Smit got the goal in the 69th minute after good build-up play by Isak Jensen, while Troy Parrott missed a penalty in the first half for AZ.

Groningen dominated the first half of their home match against Twente but went behind straight after the break when Kristian Hlynsson scored from close range. Stije Resink equalised with a penalty six minutes later, but Twente came closest to a winner when Marko Pjaca was denied by Etienne Vaessen’s fingertip save.

Utrecht beat NEC with a controversial goal, scored by Miguel Rodriguez after Gjivai Zechiël of Utrecht and NEC’s Bryan Linssen had a clash of heads in the build-up. Referee Serdar Gözübüyük allowed the goal to stand even though head injuries require the game to be stopped immediately.

NAC pulled away from the bottom three with a 1-0 win against Go Ahead Eagles. Juho Talvitie scored the only goal of the game at the start of the second half when he cut back from the by-line and fired the ball in off the underside of the crossbar.
