The hackers who stole personal information about millions of Odido customers have published the remaining data on the dark web, broadcaster NOS said on Sunday.

The hackers had said they would release the information slowly over the coming days but have now put the rest online instead.

The data covers at least 6.5 million private customers and 600,000 business customers and includes at least five million passport, driving licence and other ID details. It also includes residence papers from diplomats.

In 71,000 cases, the data includes contact details for executors, care assistants and other care providers. In addition, customer service notes about 44,000 customers – including information about their health or debts – have been leaked.

On Friday, NOS reported that Odido had been warned about the route used by the hackers last year. They were able to hack into the site by posing as IT workers and contacting the customer service desk.

Odido said it had discussed what action to take with cybersecurity advisers and government officials. “Odido has decided not to negotiate with these criminals and not to be blackmailed by them,” the company said in a statement.

The website Have I Been Pwned, has itemised the leaks, allowing clients to check if their email has been stolen. Some two million people have already done so.
