The Dutch battery company Giga Storage announced on Friday that it has finalised plans to build the largest battery storage park in Belgium, storing enough energy to power 385,000 households.

The battery park will be built on the Rotem industrial estate in Dilsen-Stokkem, Belgium. According to the company, it will “balance the electricity grid and reduce grid congestion.”

The project, dubbed Green Turtle, was launched three years ago and the Amsterdam-based company now says it has obtained all of the needed permits and secured financing.

A consortium of ten banks, including ABN Amro, ING, Rabobank, and Triodos, have agreed to fund the project, which comes with a price tag of €450 million.

“It is critical infrastructure that strengthens Belgium’s security of supply, enables more renewable energy, and reduces dependence on imported fossil fuels,” CEO Kevin Dijkers said in a statement.
