Oath-taking of newly elected National Assembly members

Kathmandu, March 9

The newly elected members of the National Assembly, chosen in the Magh 11 elections, have taken their oaths of office. The ceremony took place this afternoon at the hall of the Law, Justice, and Human Rights Committee in Singha Durbar, where the members swore allegiance to their positions and confidentiality.

During the special ceremony, National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal administered the oath to the new members.

In the Magh 11 election, 18 new members were elected. In the 59-member National Assembly, one-third of the members are elected every two years. Accordingly, the terms of 19 members ended on Falgun 20. One vacant seat is appointed by the President on the government’s recommendation.

In the Magh 11 elections, the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP) had formed an alliance. Under this agreement, from Koshi Province, Sunil Bahadur Thapa, Roshni Meche, and Som Portel were elected.

From Madhesh Province, Mahant Thakur, Dhamendra Paswan, Ranjit Karn, and Rekha Jha were elected.

From Bagmati Province, Geeta Devkota and Dr Prem Dangal were elected; from Gandaki Province, Jagat Timilsina and Samjhana Devkota; from Lumbini Province, Ramkumari Jhankri, Basudev Jangali, and Chandrabahadur KC.

From Karnali Province, Lalitjung Shahi and Mina Rakhal were elected, and from Sudurpaschim Province, Khambbahadur Khati and Leela Bhandari were elected.
