Nepali student found dead in his sleep in London

London, November 12

A Nepali student in London was found dead in his sleep on Tuesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Yeoman Chand from Bhachaur-7, Salyan. He had arrived in the UK a year ago for his MSc in Communications and Information Engineering at the University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield. He was scheduled to collect his graduation certificate the next day.

His roommate, Manoj Kunwar, said Chand had complained of a headache and vomiting around 9 am Monday, which they assumed was due to indigestion. Later that day, Chand went to central London with friends to eat momo at a Nepali restaurant.

He returned home around 11 pm, cooked dinner, and went to bed at 1:30 am. When Kunwar woke up at 7:40 am, Chand had not risen for his 8 am job. After shaking his hand and getting no response, Kunwar realised Chand’s hands were cold and he wasn’t breathing.

“I immediately called an ambulance at 7:53 am and performed CPR as instructed by the medical team,” said Kunwar. Paramedics arrived at 8 am and found Chand’s blood sugar level was just 2. Despite attempts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at 9:30 am.

Police have handed the case to the CID, which has ruled it a “natural death.” The body will be sent for post-mortem after forensic procedures.

NRNA UK President Rajendra Pudasaini said arrangements for the final rites will be made in coordination with the family, university, and friends. “We will support the bereaved family financially and morally and raise awareness among Nepali students about issues such as housing, employment, mental health, and safety,” he said.
