Imported flowers to be restricted in KMC during Tihar festival

Kathmandu, October 10

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has announced a ban on the supply of imported flowers and flower products within the city during the upcoming Tihar festival.

At a press meet held today, the Metropolitan Police Force stated that the decision aims to promote domestic farmers. Similarly, the local government will establish flower supply centers at 32 locations, including NB Centre in New Baneshwor, Phoenix Tower in Shankhamul, Sifal Chaur, Chabahil Ganeshthan, KL Tower, Old Baneshwor, and Star Mall in Putalisadak, from October 17 to 22.

The Force also announced plans to confiscate flowers if they are found to be imported. At the event, President of Floriculture Association of Nepal, Rajesh Bhakta Shrestha, expressed support for the local government’s policy. He also shared that the Association will be organizing the 18th Godavari (Chrysanthemum) Flower Competition from October 15 to 18.

According to the Association, domestic flower production is sufficient to meet market demand.
