Election Commission recommends 3-day public holiday to boost voter turnout

Kathmandu, February 22

The Election Commission has recommended that the government declare a three-day public holiday in view of the election scheduled for Falgun 21.

Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said the commission wrote to the government on Sunday recommending that public holidays be granted for three days during the election period.

“The Election Commission has recommended to the Government of Nepal that Falgun 20, 21 and 22 be declared public holidays to encourage enthusiastic participation of voters in the election,” he said.

The final decision on declaring the holidays will be made at an upcoming meeting of the Council of Ministers.
