Controversy has erupted after a proposal was made to put forward former Chief Justice Sushila Karki to lead the upcoming government. At present, Gen Z youths are staging demonstrations at the Nepal Army headquarters, raising concerns over the new leadership issue.

They are protesting, saying Karki should not take the leadership role. Meanwhile, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah (Balen) has already expressed his support for Karki.

However, the crowd gathered at the army headquarters is chanting slogans, demanding that Mayor Balen himself should be promoted to leadership instead.

It is said that Karki’s name was proposed because, in such a sensitive time, leadership requires someone with an honest image who can uphold law and due process.

On Wednesday afternoon, Gen Z representatives proposed the name of former Chief Justice Sushila Karki. But outside, gathered youths have been chanting slogans against it.
