Army Chief urges protesters to embrace dialogue for peaceful resolution

Kathmandu, September 9

Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel has called on the agitating groups to come to the negotiating table for a peaceful resolution.

In a video address on Tuesday evening, he said, “It is our collective duty to normalize the current difficult situation and safeguard the supreme national interest. Therefore, I urge you to suspend protest programs and choose the path of dialogue.”

He expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and property during the recent protests across the country. Extending heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families, he also prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls.

General Sigdel wished for the speedy recovery of the injured and stated that it is the shared responsibility of all Nepalis to maintain peace, security, law and order, and national unity.

He said, “As history has witnessed, the Nepali Army has always remained committed to safeguarding the country’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, national unity, and the security of the Nepali people.”

Sigdel stressed that the ongoing protests should not adversely affect national and historical heritage, public and private property, the general public, diplomatic missions of friendly nations, and other stakeholders’ security.

Concluding his address, he praised the motherland and the nation, urging everyone to move forward together for national harmony and unity.
