KEETMANSHOOP – Namdeb Diamond Corporation recently donated three solar geysers to Suiderlig Secondary School as part of the ongoing renovation of the school’s hostel facilities.

The donation, valued at N$79 000, follows a pledge made last year at the school’s fundraising gala dinner.  The initiative was supported by Deputy Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy Gaudentia Krohne, who helped secure commitments from Namdeb. The solar geysers will provide hot water for learners staying in the hostel, improving comfort and living conditions.

//Kharas Regional Director of Education Nicolaas Eiman, welcomed the donation, saying it is a promise kept and a meaningful investment in education.

“This support will improve the well-being of learners and strengthen school infrastructure in the region,” he said.

Namdeb CEO Riaan Burger said the company remains committed to supporting education in Namibia.

“Mining should leave a lasting positive impact beyond operations, especially through investing in people and communities,” he said.

He also said that using solar energy helps reduce reliance on non-renewable resources and supports a cleaner environment.

Deputy minister Gaudentia Krohne praised Namdeb for its continued support, noting that the donation demonstrates strong corporate responsibility despite challenges in the diamond industry.

“This is corporate citizenship at its best. Namdeb, as a company, not only derives value from our land but also gives back meaningfully to the children of our nation, even as our rough diamonds are going through a very difficult time. Synthetic diamonds are on the rise, while natural diamonds are underperforming. Yet, despite these hardships, Namdeb still chose to donate the three solar geysers. 

It is important to share the good that natural diamonds bring to Namibia,” she said.

She added that partnerships like this help improve education and show the positive impact of natural resources on Namibia.
