The Pe Maung Same Film Fund (PMSFF) held a documentary film screening event called “Through New Voices” with the films “Beyond Longhouse” and “Woven with Tears” at Chiang Mai University on Sept. 19. A book of essays called “The Prison Gate,” compiled and written by Pe Maung Same and other political prisoners at Loikaw Prison, was unveiled.
“We are working towards becoming a strong organization that can provide funding and produce many films,” said Moe Thorn, a PMSFF committee member.
Established in 2024 to honour Myanmar documentary filmmaker Pe Maung Same, who died on Aug. 19, 2024 – three days after his release from Loikaw Prison, where he was serving a three year prison sentence. Pe Maung Same, 51, officially died from spinal tuberculosis at a hospital.
