For December holidays- Kayin New Year Day and Christmas and New Year, bookings for hotel rooms have surged and the local visitor arrival is expected to be high, an official from the Union of Myanmar Travel Association (UMTA) told the Global New Light of Myanmar.
Local visitors have made preparation for their December vacation either via tour packages by travel companies or by express buses on their own plan, and hotel rooms located at popular tourist destinations have been already fully booked, he said.
“We have reports that hotel rooms have been fully booked for December holidays. The visitor arrival is predicted to mount,” he said.
In this year’s peak season, the local tourist arrival is expected to be large in local destinations such as Bagan-NyaungU-Popa, Kyaiktiyo, Bago, Taunggyi, Kalaw, Inle, PyinOoLwin, Mandalay, Chaungthar and Ngwesaung. The local tourist arrival has been large in this year’s Thadingyut compared to the same period last year, especially it is generally larger on prominent religious holidays and festive periods.
The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism has also emphasized on the development of local travel industry by exploring new destinations.
