A Chinese New Year event at Central Festival in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on Feb. 16 featured traditional performances, including lions, silver dragon and golden dragon displays.
The Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival, celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar and marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring.
Each Chinese New Year is characterized by one of 12 different animals. The year of the horse begins today, Feb. 17. Chinese New Year ends on March 3.
