The Chiang Mai Ethnic Market was held at Lan Din Cafe in Chiang Mai, Thailand, Dec. 5-6. The event highlighted the cultural diversity of various communities and featured products, crafts, woven textiles, food, and fresh produce from ethnic groups in northern Thailand and Myanmar.
“After the coup in Myanmar, more and more new arrivals have come to Thailand—not only students, but people from different backgrounds. At the same time, nationalism in Thailand has also been increasing. So, we try to prevent conflicts or misunderstandings between Thai and Myanmar communities. We hope this market can serve as a model of social integration,” said Pi Ae, the Chiang Mai Ethnic Market organizer.
Twenty vendors represented ethnic groups such as the Karenni, the Kachin, the Shan, the Burmese, and the Rakhine. This was the second edition of the Ethnic Market with organizers announcing that the third will take place on Jan. 31-Feb. 1, 2026.
