Luis Diaz’s Brutal Tackle Leaves Achraf Hakimi in Tears, Suffers Horrific Ankle Injury

Marrakech – Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Morocco star Achraf Hakimi left the pitch in tears after suffering a severe ankle injury during Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Bayern Munich at the Parc des Princes.

The injury raises serious concerns for Morocco’s campaign in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025.

The incident occurred just before halftime when Bayern’s Luis Diaz launched a reckless tackle from behind on Hakimi. The Colombian winger initially received a yellow card, which was later upgraded to a straight red following VAR intervention by referee Maurizio Mariani.

Hakimi, visibly in extreme pain, was unable to put weight on his left foot as medical staff helped him off the field. The 27-year-old right-back, who is celebrating his birthday today, was immediately replaced by Senny Mayulu.

The injury compounds PSG’s troubles in a nightmare first half that saw them trail 2-0 to Bayern after a Luis Diaz double. Earlier in the match, Ousmane Dembélé had also exited with an injury around the 25-minute mark.

For Morocco, the timing could not be worse. With the AFCON set to kick off in just over a month, the Atlas Lions may now face the tournament without their star defender.

The severity of Hakimi’s injury remains unknown, but his inability to place weight on his left ankle and his emotional reaction have sparked significant concern both at PSG and within the Moroccan national team setup.

This setback comes at a critical time as Morocco prepares to host AFCON for the first time since 1988. Hakimi, a key figure in Morocco’s recent international success, would be a crucial absence for the team’s backline if unable to recover in time.
