Agadir – The date of Eid Al Fitr in Kuwait for this year is expected to fall on Friday, March 20, according to astronomical calculations and the official Kuwaiti holiday calendar.
Eid Al Fitr marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
During this event, the holiday is celebrated by Muslims worldwide with Eid prayer, family gatherings, and charitable giving.
The exact date of Eid in Kuwait will only be officially confirmed after the sighting of the crescent moon, which signals the start of Shawwal.
In Kuwait, authorities typically rely on moon-sighting committees and religious institutions to verify the appearance of the new crescent.
Kuwait’s Civil Service Commission (CSC) has also announced the official holiday arrangements for government employees during Eid Al Fitr.
According to the commission, the holiday schedule will depend on the final length of Ramadan and the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon.
If Ramadan lasts 30 days, Thursday March 19 will be considered the final day of Ramadan and a rest day, with the Eid holiday running from Thursday to Monday, and government work resuming on Tuesday, March 24.
However, if Ramadan lasts 29 days, then March 19 would mark the first day of Eid Al Fitr, and the holiday would extend from Thursday to Sunday, with official work resuming on Monday, March 23.
The commission noted that the holiday applies to all ministries, government agencies, and public institutions, while entities with special operational requirements may determine their schedules according to their operational needs.
Kuwaiti authorities have also introduced temporary restrictions on large public events ahead of Eid Al Fitr.
The Ministry of Interior announced a ban on gatherings such as weddings, concerts, and theatrical performances during the Eid holiday until further notice, citing security and safety concerns amid the current regional tensions.
